Well, Iron Sky certainly has my favourite concept and tagline of the year. This ridiculously trashy idea had me sold from the start, with the trailer's glimpses of the darkly stylish Swastika-shaped moon base only building excitement among science fiction nerd circles.

But does it live up to its concept?

Well, as could admittedly be predicted, the plot's so thin it's almost not there, and the film's more than a little clunky in terms of dialogue, action, directing, arguably offensive humour; everything, really. I can't remember ever before seeing a professional film in which you can tell when characters aren't really punching each other.

Yet, there's something very endearing about it - perhaps the brilliant trashy concept or the inspired visual design. The film's imaginative world and spaceships really do look as if they've been crafted with care by someone with a keen eye on schlocky sci-fi chic and without the hindrance of taking oneself too seriously. Which is how the film should be approached - not too seriously. I did laugh several times, I did have fun, and I would happily watch it again.

Apparently without mainstream appeal, Iron Sky was given a very limited one-day release in cinemas, but is out on DVD now and worth checking out if you're one of us strange people who find the tagline alone to be a Pinter-esque work of genius.
